Ewan was signed from Cowdenbeath in the summer of 2004. He is the eldest of three boys and excelled in all sports at school and was considered the best young footballer the school had ever seen. Many Scottish clubs were interested in signing him but as his dad, Maurice, is a groundsman at Cowdenbeath, the other clubs didn’t get a look in.

At the age of 15, he was given his debut in the Cowdenbeath Reserves. He proved he had the strength and mental attitude to go a long way and soon expressed a desire to play for an English club. He was lined up to replace Callum Angelo who, at that time, was intending to move to Newcastle.

Ewan's broad Scots accent is a source of continuing confusion for Eric who struggles to understand him. His arrogant and mouthy attitude often lands him in trouble with the rest of the squad, particularly Callum.
